San Ramon

Known for its pleasant weather and stunning views of Mount Diablo.

Welcome to San Ramon

A modern city with an extensive history and excellent schools

The city of San Ramon was incorporated in 1983, but its history goes deeper than that. Once inhabited by the Seunen Native Americans, the land later served as grazing land for Mission San Jose. The community was named after Ramon, a Native American vaquero, or cowboy, who served as a caretaker for the mission's sheep.

Known for its pleasant weather and stunning views of Mount Diablo, today, San Ramon is home to roughly 76,000 residents who mostly own their own homes. There are many separate neighborhood communities within city limits, including Dougherty Hills, with mostly newer residences. Similar to Twin Creeks and Southern San Ramon, this is a family-oriented neighborhood. The most luxurious neighborhoods are those of Norris Canyon Estates and Roubion, located in secluded wooded settings. Most homes here are minimally 3,500 square feet or larger and include a variety of amenities.

For more than 30 years, Primavera Ristorante has been serving up traditional Italian and some new takes on old favorites. Choose between indoor and outdoor dining with menu options of pasta classics, seafood and chicken dishes, and salads. Ask the staff about Primavera Ristorante's banquet facilities for your next party while you're there.

Enjoy what is on tap at the Fieldwork Brewing's San Ramon Taproom and Beer Garden, with its ever-changing offering of brews. But don't stop there—try one of their Neapolitan-style pizzas, too. Kids are always welcome, and so are your four-legged family members out on the patio. Fieldwork Brewing is open for lunch and dinner. The Fieldwork Brewing Company is just one of the occupants in the new City Center Bishop Ranch. Other eateries include Roam Artisan Burgers, Mendocino Farms, Mixt, and C Casa.

Things to Do

Located within the City Center Bishop Ranch is The LOT Cinema, offering 10 separate theaters with the latest in comfy seating and foldaway dining trays. The theater has dining and drink options available in its own café and cocktail bar. Be sure to check out what is playing.

Wanting to get outside? Book your tee time at The Bridges Golf Course, or if your swing needs some work, book time with one of the instructors. After your game, or for a special dinner for two, visit the club's The View Restaurant. The Bridges Golf Course is available for special tournaments and is a beautiful location for sharing your nuptials, hosting an anniversary party, or any other important event.

To have a look at the San Ramon of yesteryear, visit Forest Home Farms Historic Park on San Ramon Valley Boulevard. Bequeathed by Ruth Quayle Boone in memory of her late husband, Travis Moore Booth, the 16-acre site contains the family's 22-room Dutch colonial home along with a variety of outbuildings that represent the family's agricultural roots and activities. Also located on the property is the Glass House Museum, one of the first representatives of Italianate architecture in the area, introduced in the mid-1860s. Built by David Glass in the late 1870s, the Glass House remains an important part of the San Ramon community. Before you leave, be sure to stop into the Tractor House which continues to house one of the largest collections of antique tractors in the state.

Schools

San Ramon is known for having one of the best school districts in California. The San Ramon Valley Unified District serves the community.
